Niedermayer has successful surgery
ANAHEIM, Calif. (CP) - Defenceman Scott Niedermayer has undergone successful
arthroscopic knee surgery, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks announced Monday.
The NHL club said Dr. Ronald Glousman performed the operation in Los Angeles, which resulted in the removal of a medial meniscus tear. The Ducks added Niedermayer's recovery is expected to take three to four weeks.
The injury forced Niedermayer to withdraw from the Canadian hockey team for the Turin Olympics.
Niedermayer captured the Norris Trophy as the NHL's top defenceman during the 2003-'04 season when with the New Jersey Devils before joining the Ducks last year as a free agent.
He was a member of the Canadian men's team that won Olympic gold at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games to end a 50-year drought.
Jay Bouwmeester of the Florida Panthers was added to the Canadian team's roster to take Niedermayer's place.
